Love, Grandma is a heart-warming children’s book written by Ann Morris and illustrated by David Gnass. From playing dress-up and brushing their grandmother’s hair, to colouring the pavement of the driveway and making indoor tents and buses, Payton and Haley create lasting memories with Grandma. They frolic and thrive under her supervision, forming a bond that transcends the barriers caused by differences in age. With lively drawings and a poignant quality, this book follows the daily activities of two young girls and their loving grandmother.

Generational gaps are sometimes hard to bridge. What better way to overcome this than to illustrate all the fun and excitement children can expect when in the company of their grandparents? Our grandparents exist as much more than substitutes for our parents, free of all the stifling, boring rules that come with traditional parenthood, which I believe was conveyed beautifully in these few pages.

Love, Grandma boasts wonderful illustrations, which were what I liked best about this book. Grandma’s love for her grandchildren, Payton and Haley, was clearly transmitted by way of the expressivity of the drawings. At some points, I could see when Grandma tried to keep up with the highly energetic exploits of the girls, which was another subtle indicator of the differences in their ages that I enjoyed. All in all, there was nothing to dislike about this book.

I located no errors while reading this book. As a matter of fact, the style of writing was very appealing, largely owing to the rhyming method of delivery. The correctness of grammar, as well as how the standard of writing was well up to par, led me to assume that this book has been professionally edited.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. A touching yet brief story about the eternal bond between grandparents and their little ones, this book is more than deserving of a perfect rating. I recommend this book to grandparents who would like a quick read for their charges or to parents who are looking for a meaningful naptime story. I do not recommend this book to those who prefer educational children’s books.
