Review of The Purple Bird And Rainbow Snail
In The Purple Bird And Rainbow Snail by Shelly Kesner Inskeep, we follow the close friendship of the main characters, Rainbow Snail and Purple Bird. They both lived together and did everything together. Unique in their own ways, they would help each other execute different tasks, and they complemented themselves very well. For example, Purple Bird depended on Rainbow Snail's communication skills, while Rainbow Snail depended on Purple Bird's swift mobility. All was going well until the day that Rainbow Snail noticed that Purple Bird was not her usual self; Purple Bird was falling ill, and the doctor was over a mile away. Without the ability to move fast, can Rainbow Snail reach out to the doctor in time to save her friend?
I have to say that I enjoyed every moment of reading this captivating, fun book. This children's book expertly depicts the significance of good friendships, as we not only see both characters depend on each other but also their love, respect, and how they made each other feel are on full display. Children will benefit from emulating their friendship. Both characters draw you into a relatable, tough situation. A lot of us have been in situations where we want to help our friends but have limited means to do so. This story serves to encourage us to give our best to our friends even when the chances of success are low. I enjoyed rooting for the characters throughout the story.
The book also imparts the important values of helping strangers and treating them kindly and with respect. However, readers will have to pick up this book to see how the author expertly passes this message. The book is heavy on colorful illustrations of the characters, their house, their thoughts, and their journey. It will be difficult for children to put down this book once they have a view of these eye-catching illustrations.
The author also employs rhyme schemes throughout the story, which added to the fun of reading it, as I could sing my way through the book. Furthermore, The Purple Bird And Rainbow Snail is an exceptionally well-edited book, as I did not find any grammatical or typographical errors while reading.
I cannot think of anything I dislike about this fun, educative read. Therefore, the maximum rating of four out of four stars is in order. The message passed is key, and the relatable characters and the book's overall execution are outstanding. I would recommend this book to children between the ages of two and eight.
