Most children fear thunder and lightning because they do not understand what causes them. While some of them may start crying immediately, others get scared and hide or cover their ears and eyes so that they don’t see or hear whatever is happening. Thunder and Lightning: They’re Not So Frightening by JD Schmith is a fictional children’s book that has some teachings about thunder and lightning. These teachings might be helpful to both children and adults.

Every night before William went to bed, he would look outside his window to admire the lights that came from the houses below him. But this particular night, when he looked outside the window, he saw that the clouds were getting darker and darker and there were signs that a big storm would occur. Suddenly, there were loud thunderstorms, and the sky started producing some lightning. The boy was so scared of the thunder and lightning that he hid under his blankets and started calling his father. His father came and explained to him the causes of thunder and lightning and assured him that there was nothing to be scared about. After the explanation, William could sleep without fear. What exactly causes thunder and lightning? Why wasn’t William scared anymore?

The book is one short story, and it is not divided into various chapters. The writer starts by acknowledging his sons and husband for their support and patience as she wrote that book and then, thereafter, the story begins.

What I liked about this book is that it used simple language that is precise, clear, and straight to the point. This will enable any child reading this to understand everything without any struggles. I also liked the fact that the book is short. Since children have a very short concentration span, they won’t be bored. Since I didn’t find any grammatical errors while reading, this book was exceptionally edited.

There is nothing I disliked about the book. I, therefore, rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to parents whose children fear thunder and lightning. It will make them understand how they occur and, therefore, eliminate their fear. For younger children who aren’t able to read yet, parents can read this book to them as a bedtime story. Although this is a brilliant book for children, its contents are so simple and obvious that adults may not enjoy it.

Insofar as the word 'should' even has meaning, then we must say that the past is exactly as it should be, everything that happened should have happened, and everything that should happen will happen
