The Rainbow Boat is a children's book written by Hélène Ferreira. It comprises just twenty-two pages. It is a short book about a blue boat that has its crew made up of only girls. The story starts when these girls reach an island of boys. They become friends, and they learn to help each other. Before the girls leave the island, they ask if any boy would love to join them in their sailor's quest. Three boys volunteer, and they put a stripe of green on the boat as their mark. This would be the first of several color stripes as they set out on their adventure.

The story continues, and they make their first stop at Candy Island. Things take a turn when a witch tricks them and locks them up in her house. Will they be able to escape? How many other islands would they visit? Hélène takes children on an adventure to the land of fantasy.

I spotted several positive aspects of this book. I enjoyed the use of rhymes intended to keep the children interested and fascinated by the book as they read it. The author also included subtle lessons with each adventure; for instance, the author made it clear that trusting a stranger is sometimes not pleasant. I think this book is just the right length for children. Then, I noticed illustrations showing the crew and the boat; this would make children want to keep reading to see the picture of the next color stripe added to the boat. Also, the author mentioned the colors being added to the boat, and they were written in the same color; for instance, when the crew added the indigo stripe to their boat, the word indigo was written in indigo color. I found this very thoughtful and unique because children would quickly identify and learn their colors while reading this book. I could not spot an error in this book; it was exceptionally well edited.

The only negative aspect I spotted in this book is the structure of the book. This was a free-flowing story. However, it would help the children anticipate the next adventure if the book was split into chapters or had titles for each adventure; for instance, the adventure to Candy Island could have had the title "Candy Island." I think the structure could be improved; nevertheless, it was a fantastic book, and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Therefore, I rate this children's book four out of four stars. I did not give it a lower rating because I found this book exciting and fun to read, notwithstanding that I feel it could be structured better. I recommend this book to children between the ages of four to seven years old. However, children would find this book exciting because it helps them learn their colors.

It must be a good read for children. Vibrantly colored pictures and rhyming must interest them even more.
