[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Adventures Of Too Cool The Urban Penguin" by Elliott Nicholas.]
Once upon a time, at the North Pole, a group of young penguins gathered to swim for the first time in their lives. Before they jumped into the water, the young penguins gathered in a circle and began praying together to God to keep them out of danger. However, a young penguin named TC did not want to pray with the others believing he was too cool for such a thing. The reader further learns whether TC will jump into the water and swim, whether he will pray to God, and whether he will encounter any dangers because of his arrogance and stubbornness.
The Adventures of Too Cool the Urban Penguin: A Time to Pray by Elliott Nicholas is a children’s book that follows a young penguin who thinks he is too cool to pray and swim. Through the depiction of a young penguin, the author shows the consequences of stubbornness and pride. He also emphasizes that God is always there for us and that even in the worst moments of life, we should trust in God's help.
This is a very unique and fun story with an instructive element. The author sends a message about the importance of togetherness, friendship, and modesty. I like how, through the example of TC, the author shows how people very often turn to God only when they find themselves in the most challenging moments, while in moments of abundance and joy, they often neglect and forget God. Nicholas emphasizes the importance of prayer and faith in God at all times. In addition, the illustrations are engaging and show the whole plot of the book well. Furthermore, almost every sentence ends with a rhyme which makes the entire story more fun and melodic.
There is nothing in the book that I did not like. Although I came across some minor errors in the book, they did not affect my reading.
Because of all the already mentioned, I give the book 4 out of 4 stars. I have no significant reason to give it a lower rating. I would recommend it primarily to all parents who want to teach their children the importance of prayer. Therefore, I think the book is intended mainly for Christians because Jesus is mentioned several times.
