Review of Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat
Books will truly take you everywhere. In this amazing adventure story; Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi, which is the seventh of the nine books in the Inca Cat series but can be read as a stand-alone, the kitties, Inca, Cara, Fromage and a hamster, Charlotte, went with their "humanoid" mom on vacation to Serendipity Island, Sri-Lanka.
Inca is a nosy Siberian cat who refers to herself as the Queen of kitties and is gradually gaining popularity across England for her detective agency and the mysteries they have solved. The story is told through Inca's well-detailed diary entries from the vacation, giving historical and cultural information about Sri Lanka and other countries Inca has lived in.
Inca and her family were scheduled to visit the Colombo Museum during their stay in Sri Lanka, but, unfortunately, an antique sword was stolen from the museum. Solo, an international detective who happens to be their next-door neighbour back in London, had been invited to investigate the theft case at the museum in Sri Lanka. He came with his assistant, Terrance, an intelligent dog and a member of Inca’s detective team. Inca decides to jump on this case with as much information as possible from Terrance. Will Inca and her crew succeed in unravelling yet another mystery? Or will Inca and company be missing the rest of their detective team back in London? Flip the engaging pages to find out.
The book is well written, easy to understand, and has brilliant illustrations that are appropriately adapted to enhance understanding of the book. The communication flow between the characters despite their differences is commendable. I also liked the family tree at the beginning of the book. It helped to familiarise with each character and as a reminder if one got confused. In addition, some of the appealing figures of speech in the book could serve as examples to teach children literature.
Another beneficial aspect is the wealth of knowledge contained in this book; geography, history, cultural awareness, etc. There is so much for children to learn from this story; bravery, confidence, friendship, empathy, teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, detailed documentation, heroic acts, etc. It was especially refreshing to read about different animals coming together despite their difference in size and forms to achieve a common goal. This will teach children that there is a lot to achieve together regardless of colour, race, financial status, etc. The loyalty of Inca's new friends is also exemplary, considering that they had just met. It was also nice that amidst all the fun in the book, the author dedicated a portion that served as an example of the possible dangers of being out alone at night, unaccompanied by an adult.
There was absolutely nothing I disliked about the book. It was a pleasure to read from the beginning to the end, and I happily rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend it to young readers between the age of 5 and 12 who are animal lovers or just like mystery stories.

Thank you. I'm not so keen on pets, but I still enjoyed it so I bet they will too .Saint Bruno wrote: ↑02 Dec 2021, 09:37 This review is both insightful and detailed. I am sure children who love pets would find this title very fascinating. Thanks for the recommendation.
