Shadow's Adventure Home by Kathy Kovar is a children's book about a cat called Shadow. Shadow lives with Brendan's family. He is too obsessed with birds, and whenever he sees them from the window of their house, he hopes that one day he will be able to catch one.

One day, Brendan's family moves to a bigger house with even more and larger windows. This allows him to view birds even better. He sees a bird while Brendan plays. Brendan, however, leaves the door open, and Shadow gets an opportunity to go outside to catch the bird. The bird flies away, but Shadow is still determined to catch it, so he continues following it. When Shadow finally loses sight of the bird, he realizes that he is lost and very far away from home. Does he get his way back home and reunite with his family?

The most amazing thing that I love about the book is how it beautifully carries its readers through the breathtaking adventure that Shadow goes through. After getting lost, Shadow has to endure so much and make some very difficult decisions. He has to persevere the cold and hunger in the wild. He becomes thin due to hunger, and his fur becomes dirty and messed up because he does not get a bath like he used to do.

I also love how Shadow has been drawn into the story. He is depicted as a curious, determined, intelligent, and loyal cat. We can easily see this from his character traits in the narration. He is so determined to catch a bird that he follows one when he gets the chance until he gets lost. I sympathized with Shadow when he had to endure hunger, the cold night, loneliness, and fear after losing his way back home.

I've immensely enjoyed reading the book, and I love Shadow's adventure and how he has been portrayed. I've also been moved by the woes and difficulties he goes through after getting lost. Since there is nothing I dislike about the book, I'll rate it 4 out of 4. It is an exceptionally well-edited book since I have not found any error or typo.

The book is good for children around the age of nine or below due to its simplicity. It is also a very short read, and children will love the colored illustrations in the book, too.

Reminds me of when our dog strayed from home. 😂Seems a nice book.
Harmony in chaos. It's all a matter of perspective.

Haha! Cats can be cheeky. I have one at home exactly like Shadow. This book captures what they go through when they stray. Thanks for the review!

It seems "curiousity killed the cat" applies here, only that this time around it is "curiosity almost killed the cat". Nice review!
