[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Oma and me" by Cherry Charleston Harris.]
Oma and Me: When Oma Comes to Visit by Cherry Charleston Harris is a children’s book about a boy and his grandmother.
This story is a beautiful interpretation of what happens when a young boy’s grandmother comes over to visit. They jump around and play all day. He shows her his toys and books. When Oma brings her suitcase over, he knows she is staying the night. There is so much love between this boy and his grandmother.
The style of this story is very simply written with one, sometimes only two sentences per page. This writing is similar to what one could expect to find in either a children’s novel or a short story. The writing in this book was straightforward and easy to follow.
I loved how colorful the pictures were in this book. Every picture in this story is of the boy and his grandmother having fun, either playing with toys, reading books, or skipping down the street. I liked how the pictures would completely fill one page, while the adjacent page was completely white with black text. It gave the book a very clean feeling.
This story was simple and fun. I really enjoyed reading it and expect that parents and grandparents will enjoy sharing this story with their own children. There was nothing in this story I disliked. Additionally, I did not find any grammatical or spelling errors and believe this book was professionally edited. This book was clearly professionally edited. I would rate this story four out of four stars.
Normally I would recommend children’s books to parents to read to their children, but this book sounds like an amazing bonding experience for a grandmother and her grandchild. It is so happy and exciting to see someone so young be this excited about seeing a grandparent. I would recommend this book to children under the age of 8.
