Review of Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat
Inca is a super cat detective (another name for a cat whose curious nature makes it poke its nose into other people's business). She is the head of the detective agency that she unsurprisingly names Inca & Company. After many successful jobs that have been done by her team, she believes that the vacation that mom took them on was well deserved. Sri Lanka was not what she expected. The beaches quickly became her favorite thing. But a wrench is thrown in her plans to relax when news of the theft of an ancient sword finds its way into her ears. Will she stay true to her nature and try to find the thief? Or will she turn her face away from an obvious and interesting adventure?
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is the seventh book in the Inca Cat Detective series. One thing that I liked in this (simple but captivating) book, was the many things that it taught me about Sri Lanka. This is the first book in the series that I have read, so I do not know if R.F. Kristi is in the habit of teaching a bit about the places that Inca and her team visit. But I know that my younger ones and I cannot forget these places, and we believe that adding a bit of information successfully taught us things about that beautiful country that we may never have known. I would like to say that this educative feature is what I liked most about the book.
In addition to teaching geography, the story also teaches about animals. The author used pictures to show what an elephant and a turtle look like. It describes their habitat, food, and characteristics in a way that will make it almost impossible to forget them.
Nothing in Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat made me dislike it. I had no reason to if I'm being honest. I loved everything in it. Although I found one error in the book, I believe that it was professionally edited. It was truly educative and interesting. There was a bit of suspense, which added to the entertaining part of the book. And because I loved it all, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
Since this is a children's book, it would seem funny if I did not recommend it to children. But as an adult who learned a fair bit from Inca's adventure in Sri Lanka, I want to believe that it is also suitable for reading by adults. But as much as I would recommend it to kids younger than 12 (to help strengthen their reading skills and keep them entertained), I also recommend it to adults who wish to learn (just like I did).
