Review of Love, Grandma
Do you have any fond childhood memories of your grandmother? What kind of games did you play together? Love, Grandma by Ann Morris is a book written from a grandmother's perspective describing all the fun activities she participates in with her granddaughters. It consists of the author's personal experiences, which she uses to express her love and affection for her grandchildren.
The book is written in poetry form and rhymes beautifully. It has a fun vibe that will capture the children's attention. The illustrations by David Gnass are perfect and match the content well, so children will be able to read the words and look at the pictures simultaneously.
Some of the activities described in the book are the ones I did during my childhood, so the book served as a trip down memory lane for me. It also showed that times may have changed, but some things remain the same, like building houses with pillows and sheets, doing art and craft, playing dress-up, etc.
The book aims at creating a positive atmosphere by highlighting good role models in the children's lives. I also liked that the grandmother in the book did not hesitate to come to the children's level while having fun. This is important in order to form a strong relationship with them.
The author's personal touch gives an authentic feel to the book. Additionally, it has some words that could be new to the children, like inspire, galore, flitted, etc. It can help improve the vocabulary, especially in cases where English is not the child's first language.
I found nothing to dislike in the book. It is well written, with a wonderful message. Hence, I'm rating it 4 out of 4 stars. There were no errors, so I can say the book is exceptionally well edited. I recommend it to children between the ages of 4 to 7. Adults can also read this book aloud to them. Also, readers who enjoy children's books can give it a try and reminisce about their childhood.
