Review of Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat
Can a snoopy cat and her furry friends beat an experienced detective to a stolen treasure?
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is the seventh installment in the Inca Cat Series by R.F. Kristi. Inca writes down her observations and adventures in this book. She heads Inca & Company, a team of investigators that includes her siblings Cara, Charlotte, and Fromage. The book takes place between June 10th and 17th. After traveling to Sri Lanka to spend their holiday with their human mother, Missy, Inca and her siblings learn of a sudden robbery. Detective Solo, a friend of Missy and a renowned investigator, was contacted to investigate the theft of a national treasure in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Inca and her siblings were thrilled to hear the news of Solo's arrival, as his dog, Terrance, a member of their team, would be joining them. Inca listened in on the detective's conversation. She planned to search their suspicious neighbor's house for the stolen sword and gold coins. Their new friends, a turtle and a baby elephant, who knew the island and its people, assisted. Now it all depends on their cleverness to get around the obstacles that might stand in their way.
The series of books is well composed, and the books blend nicely. I appreciated that they contained information about different countries and cultures, and occasionally some foreign words. It was clear from the interactions between the lovable animals that we should work together, as teamwork can make anything possible. Somewhere in the story, Inca searches for her little brother, who sneaked outside at night. Despite his sibling's warning, he was determined to meet a leopard family. Because of his stubbornness, Inca loses her way while looking for him and encounters threatening creatures in the jungle. This event, in particular, is a great lesson for kids that do not think of the consequences of their actions. When Inca found her way home, her brother felt sorry that he had not listened to her, while she forgave him for his actions. I was content with their reactions after this incident; it highlighted that we should be forgiving.
Although I believe that the book can be worded better for a kid's book, I give this book a rating of four out of four stars. Minor errors were present, but they were not numerous and did not affect the flow; I found the book professionally edited. As some words might be difficult to comprehend for kids, this book is more suited for parents and teachers who want to introduce kids to new vocabulary. After this story, kids will be more friendly and accepting while becoming more passionate about animals. I hope more people check out this book, as I did enjoy the adventure.
