Composed and illustrated by Cheryl Charanian, Don’t Bug me! is a riveting read for young kiddos. Mr. Spider was the leader of all the insects in the animal kingdom. Better still, he was a royal. He had never come out of the castle, so he did not know what the outside world was like. Then boom! The Great Evil Cockroach ambushed the ants in their village and annihilated the entire population.

The news reached Mr. Spider, and he set out to stop the Great Evil Cockroach. But wait, the outside world is all strange to him. Once out there, he sees tall beings with two feet called people who can trample and kill him instantly. Fast-moving things with wheels called cars are a threat to his survival. How will Mr. Spider survive? Better still, will he stop the Great Evil Cockroach?

Cheryl made the illustrations as lively as possible. You can see the wickedness of the Great Evil Cockroach from the pictures. The ants are scared of him, and their panic and fear are written all over their faces. That is what I cherished about the book.

I liked the tenacity Mr. Spider had to stop the evil doings of the Great Evil Cockroach. Even though he is new to the external world, he bravely embarks on a journey to a land filled with people and cars that can crush him. The caterpillar was wise and kind. I hope the children can emulate the virtues of the caterpillar.

There was not a single error, so the book is professionally edited. The dialogues involved Mr. Spider, and his quest to restore order among the insects was worth noting. I rate the novella 4 out of 4 stars for the lessons it instills in kids. Moreover, I did not detect a single thing to loathe. I recommend Don’t Bug Me! by Cheryl Charanian to children between 3 and 6 years old.

Sounds like a cute story with a good lesson. Most kids like bugs so this would catch their attention. Good review.

A lesson for the children in this book. The review is so educative. The symbolism of the animals in relation to the adult world presents the suffocation that children face whenever they want to fit in it. The Spider wishes to help the people but gets a world of adults that can kill him instantly if he makes a slight wrong move.
It also opens the child's mind to always look for solutions to problems instead of running away from them.

I tremendously loved your review. The book sounds really interesting and entertaining. I think my children would like it. However, I always prefer, but I am not sure whether others share my opinion or not, that we should include spoilers in children books reviews, so to make sure they suit our children.

It’s just like a child who has been encroached by parents all his/her life and then something bad happens and they have no clue on what to do because of this. I think the book is teaching about how to leave ones comfort zone. Very good for children.
