Loving family members are stuck on different sides of the Korean peninsula. Inca and her detective friends take it upon themselves to rectify the family’s unfortunate circumstances. Can a group of animal detectives take on the challenge of crossing the Korean Demilitarized Zone? Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi chronicles the experience of crime-solving animal detectives in Korea. Inca, a Siberian cat, and her furry friends accompany Missy (Inca’s human owner) to South Korea. Missy is a guest judge in a cooking competition and is debuting her new cheese. Inca’s crime-solving adventure starts as soon as they land at the airport. She has to figure out who stole Missy’s cheese. Later, Inca and her animal friends take on the challenge of reuniting their Korean guide with his sister. Crossing over to North Korea proves to be a thrilling adventure.

Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is educative because of the inclusion of concepts like the Korean Demilitarized Zone. These concepts are part of the background information that sets the scenes in the storyline. I think this makes it easier for young readers to digest complex information.

Another positive aspect is the use of illustrations that set the tone in the book. Each chapter has colorful drawings that illustrate Korean culture. Another clever writing tool is using the animal character’s point of view. Writing the story from Inca’s point of view makes her relatable and allows the reader to connect to her as a character.

The book fits the bill as a children’s book. The storyline is thrilling and entertaining, the illustrations are appropriate and informative, and the author has included complex ideas in a child-friendly way. The editing is effective because there are no errors. I rate Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi four out of four stars because I enjoyed the book and found no dislikes.

I recommend the book to children between seven and eleven years old. I think parents and teachers should go through the new ideas and vocabulary with the children. The book is perfect for introducing new cultures and countries to young readers.

Oh, I absolutely loved the illustration too. Illustrations are very significant in children's book.

Inca and his animal detectives are quite interesting characters to read about. I was touched by the risk they took to bring Ye-Jun's sister's cat across the North Korean border. Thanks for a compelling review.
