People say that strict parents mellow out when they become grandparents, and this often seems to be the case. Either way, there’s nothing quite like a grandparent’s affection. In Love, Grandma by Ann Morris, we can see just how much one grandmother cares. This children’s picture book is dedicated to Ms. Morris’ granddaughters, Payton and Haley. From baking cookies together to giving piggyback rides, it is inspired by memories of the fun times she had with the girls as they were growing up.

On the cover, there is a cartoon drawing of Ms. Morris with her two granddaughters sitting on a bench outdoors. More whimsical illustrations by David Gnass can be found throughout the storybook. Soft pastel shades were chosen for the artwork. The story is told in rhyming verses as the author describes her family’s beloved pastimes. No inappropriate content or religious messages can be found in the text, so anyone can enjoy this book.

As I read, I was reminded of childhood memories with my own grandmother, especially the part when they were in the yard. Because I’m an avid bird-watcher, I also liked how the girls fed the birds with Grandma. Furthermore, I appreciated the inclusion of realistic details, such as grandparents not being as flexible and fit as when they were younger. Such honesty was refreshing to see because many people refuse to admit that they are facing these age-related issues. The real-life characters also represent the prevalence and acceptance of multiracial families. This proves that people can put aside trivial differences regarding race, and they can love without limitations.

There is nothing to dislike about this sweet storybook. Apart from a couple of errors, this is a wonderful publication. The formatting, font, and text layout were professionally done and pleasing to the eye. At the end of the book, a brief description of the author and a list of her other published works provide additional information that readers may be interested in.

The author has lovingly shared precious personal moments, and the illustrator has perfectly captured them with his art. This is a heartwarming story for children, parents, and grandparents. Reading this book may even inspire you to create your own memories as you enjoy time with your family. Therefore, Love, Grandma by Ann Morris earns a rating of no less than four out of four stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the special bond between the grandmother and her grandchildren.

The book is pleasantly written, well illustrated and well thought out. However, I think it is more suitable for girls. Thanks for the good review.

It's interesting that a story based on one person's relationship with her granddaughters is relatable to many readers who have enjoyed a loving bond with a grandparent. Thank you for your lovely review.

Grandparents are simply the best. However, only those that still have around them around would understand. I found your review captivating. Well done!
