A young boy named Sonny sets sail an old boat in the sea. He enjoys eating honey, so he has more than a few packs for the voyage. He intended to see large whales while sailing. Unfortunately, Sonny faces a situation. A small blue whale has been lost for a few days and is exhausted from trying to locate his family.

Sonny shares some honey with the whale. In the process, a herd of seahorses approach them and claim to know the direction of the whale’s family. They then follow the seahorses in hopes of reuniting the blue whale with his family.

There is a picture of Sonny hugging the little whale. The affection between the two is contagious. The information relayed in this work is not only educative but also entertaining. It felt like reading a poem or singing a song with rhyming words.

I learned of two unfamiliar animals: sea cows and seahorses. I searched them on the internet to make sure they were real. A sea cow is commonly known as a manatee. It is amusing to know how much one can learn even from children’s books. Those are some of the things I enjoyed.

When Sonny decided to follow the seahorses, I had mixed feelings. I did not know whether the seahorses were genuine or setting a trap. I did discover one error; therefore, the book is professionally edited.

In the beginning, Julia lists a glossary of homophones and their meanings. She composes using different colors, so you can imagine how colorful it must be. Also, the author underlines the homophones in the story for easier identification. I rate the work 4 out of 4 stars because stating the author was ingenious is a mere understatement. I uncovered no aspect to dislike. I recommend Tale of the last whale by Julia Irwin to kids willing to learn homophones while taking an adventure in the sea.

Children books that have a learning experience are the best. At least ur child won't be wasting his time with violent and confusing cartoons. Great review
