Thunder and Lightning, They’re Not So Frightening by JD Schmith is a children’s picture book about a boy named William. William is afraid of thunder and lightning and seeks comfort from his father, who explains what causes thunder and lightning. William’s father explains in terms simple enough for William to understand that lightning is just a large burst of electricity and that thunder is a result of the lightning heating up the air suddenly. This helps calm him down and lets William go to sleep.

This book helps explain to children what causes thunder and lightning and can ease their fears of storms. Instead of making up fake stories or retelling myths, this work tells the scientific truth in a simple way that kids can easily understand. The children are even informed that, while dangerous, lightning cannot harm them as long as they’re inside. The book is full of fun, cute illustrations that will draw in young readers and keep them interested.

There is nothing negative about Thunder and Lightning, They’re Not So Frightening. The work is well written, and there were no spelling or grammar errors found; it was professionally edited.

I give Thunder and Lightning, They’re Not So Frightening by JD Schmith 4 out of 4 stars. There are no reasons to deduct any stars. It is a very well-written children’s book.

I would recommend this book for young kids who are not the best readers but not new to reading. This would also be a good story for teachers of young students and parents. Kids interested in facts and science, or children who are scared by storms, will also enjoy reading this beginner’s picture book. There are no warnings that apply to Thunder and Lightning, They’re Not So Frightening, but some parents may want to read it ahead to ensure it is a good fit for their kids.
