[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Tyler's Promised Gift: Book One in the "Tyler, the Rabbit" series " by M. C. Abushar.]
Tyler's Promised Gift is the first book in the Tyler, the Rabbit series by M. C. Abushar. The story revolves around Tyler, a rabbit whose birthday is coming up. He accompanies his mother to the store, and he sees a little red toy car that he loves and wants so much. How can he get this car? He asks his mother to buy it for him, and she gives him a condition before she will buy it as a birthday gift, which involves being a good rabbit until his birthday. Tyler is determined to undertake this task and satisfactorily do all that his mother requests of him. Can he remain a good rabbit until his birthday and get his dream car?
I thoroughly enjoyed this fun read, including the suspense that came with finding out if Tyler achieved his aim. Tyler is a character that most children will connect to and root for. I even found myself wanting him to succeed, as he reminded me of my younger years when I always anticipated completing my errands for the gift my mother had in store.
By trying to be a good rabbit and doing all his chores properly, Tyler passes an important message to children about the significance and rewards of not just determination but also being good. Being good entailed eating his healthy meals, putting his toys back in place after playing, and folding his clothes neatly, which were activities that would serve him well later in adulthood. In addition, the book wraps up with a key lesson in showing kindness, even when it isn't convenient, and this is my favorite aspect of the book.
The book was also illustrated by the author, as M. C. Abushar expertly brings the story to life by employing simple watercolor painting images. Readers will get to see Tyler, his mom, and his friends and participate in his fun birthday party as well.
The text was devoid of any grammatical errors while I read, which means that the book was exceptionally edited. There's nothing to dislike about this book. It ticks all the boxes for a good and impactful children's book for me. Simple words, an engaging story, important lessons, and eye-catching illustrations are employed expertly. Therefore, I rate this book four out of four stars. Children between the ages of three and eight will enjoy this book.
