Review of Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula
Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is a sweet children’s book about a cat named Inca and her furry friends. Inca runs a detective agency called Inca and company. As a peace-building effort, a friendly patisserie competition has been arranged between North Korea and South Korea. Inca’s humanoid mom, Missy, has been selected as a judge for this competition. So, Inca and the whole furry family are accompanying her to the Korean Peninsula.
In this book, we see many great adventures. Inca and her friends try to protect Missy from her rival chef’s malicious intentions. They learn about the politeness and cleanliness of South Koreans. They savor the beauty of the wooden homes and the beautiful cherry blossoms. And finally, they undertake a risky adventure to help Ye-Jun, their lovely tour guide, and his dog, Baram.
First of all, I picked this book solely for its colorful cover page. But after reading the book, I have become a fan of R.F. Kristi and our brave detectives. I am in awe of the author’s sensitive abilities in tackling a dark subject like the hostility between North Korea and South Korea. We all want our kids to grow up with hope and positiveness, but we also want them to know the real world. I think this book shows how we can teach our kids about tough subjects without darkening their sweet souls. Kids will also learn about the unique elements of the Korean peninsula like politeness, geographical beauty, unique architecture, cleanliness, orderliness, helpful nature, and so on.
There is nothing in this book that I disliked. The illustrations are beautiful, and the story is educative along with being fun. This story teaches children about world affairs, the importance of friendship, respecting people who differ from us, and the loving relationship between pets and their humans. I just found one error. So, this book has been professionally edited too. Thus, I will rate this book four out of four stars.
I highly recommend this book to children of all ages. If you want to introduce your kids to different countries and different cultures, then pick this book. The author has provided some basic highlights of the Korean peninsula and nothing extensive. Kids will just enjoy the adventures of furry friends while unknowingly learning something. Even if you don’t have children, read this book. You will fall in love with the adventures of Inca and her friends.
