Review of Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids
What is Heaven like? Do you get to do some of the same things that you do here on earth, or is it a totally different place? Can you still be injured or sick in Heaven, or is everybody healed? How about Hell, what is it like there? Finally, how can you avoid going to Hell? These are all questions that are answered in Snatched up to Heaven for Kids, by Jemima Paul and Arvind Paul.
This is a beautifully told story about a young girl who has a dream about visiting Heaven and Hell. The story begins with a little girl named Emma dreaming about what it would be like to visit Heaven. She is so excited about the dream, that when she wakes up she can't wait to tell her parents and sister about it. Emma describes what Heaven is like, who is there, and what people do in Heaven. After dreaming about Heaven a couple more times, Emma then dreams about Hell, and what it would be like to go there. She tells her family about this dream, and then her parents have a discussion with her about Hell.
One thing I loved about this book is that it is filled with beautiful descriptions of Heaven using both words and images. The authors use words that catch children’s attention (rainbow, sparkly, unicorn) and also have beautiful illustrations that match their words. This book also has a good balance between telling a fictional story, but also using verses and examples from the Bible to go along with the story. There are no awkward moments when the story and the verses feel choppy or just stuck together.
There is nothing negative about the book. It is beautifully written, and provides examples about how to talk to your children about Heaven and Hell. The authors also touch on how to share that message with others outside of your family. It paints the beautiful picture of Heaven, and isn’t afraid to touch on the scarier subject of Hell.
This book includes content that both children and adults can relate to. It would be a great book to use if you are just beginning to teach your children about Jesus. It's also fun to read as an adult - it reminded me of when I started to believe in Jesus, and how my own parents told me about his love.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I would happily purchase this book to use with my own children, and would gift it to others in a heartbeat.
