Review of Wolfy’s Adventure
In Wolfy's Adventure: An unlikely friendship, Gisela Bengfort tells a story centered on a young female rat named Wolfy. Wolfy has a great family comprising her parents and seven brothers who love her, and she loves them too. As rats, they are surrounded by predators such as Sneaky, Smelly, Furry, and Dark Shadow. With the presence of these predators, the rats go through a lot of challenges to feed and survive. Wolfy had scary encounters, first with Furry, which she survived, and then with Fate but was saved by Chicken Wire. A twist in the story has the hawk, Fate, stuck in a soccer net at the mercy of Wolfy. Wolfy has to make a decision and be ready to handle the outcome of that decision. Find out what decision she made and the aftermath from this book.
I love that this book teaches values and morals. It spelt out the need for trust and loyalty, as was illustrated in Wolfy and Fate's friendship. The book explained the true meaning of friendship, disregarding species or type. The good relationship within Wolfy's family goes a long way to explain values every family should have and uphold. The author did a great job creating an image of the animals. The pictures in it also added a bit of spice to the story.
While reading the book, I felt that the author made it seem like rats were always the victims among other animals and that the predators were terrible creatures. This should have been explained more clearly for a young reader to understand that no animal is more horrible than the other; they are all just trying to survive. Also, Wolfy's Father, Rolfy, narrated a story along the line, which I consider too long for a story just meant to pass a message to the other rats. The story was a bore.
Wolfy's Adventure: An unlikely friendship has a whole lot of lessons, and I found it very interesting. It was exceptionally well edited. There were no spelling or grammatical errors in it. However, I rate it 3 out of 4 stars. I removed one star because of the story I mentioned in my negative point; it affected my enjoyment of the book.
Wolfy's Adventure: An unlikely friendship is a good one for children, young readers, and fable lovers. They will enjoy reading it because, for the children, the questions randomly asked by the author in the story would engage them, and they would particularly find the included pictures interesting. The fable lovers will love the entire imagery and how the author created them while also picking valuable lessons from it.
