Did You Know? by Ashok Bhaskaran is a history book for kids. It provides insight into how life was years ago. It gives historical facts about ancient means of communication and transportation. It also identifies some inventors who brought about civilization, what they invented, some of the challenges they faced, and how we are benefiting from their inventions.

I loved how the author introduced new information with familiar facts. This made the narrative simple and easy to understand. For instance, when discussing ancient tablets and their uses, he began by making reference to modern electronic tablets. Also, the chapters were not overly lengthy but brief and appropriate for kids. This will help children to retain the main points.

I appreciate the colorful illustrations in the book. I observed that all the illustrations used in this book have a touch of yellow. This made the illustrations bright and attractive. These educative illustrations can serve as visual aids in understanding the historical facts in the book.

I love how the author made the information in the book relevant and practical. For example, when discussing the handling of plastics, he specified the consequences of failing to dispose such materials properly and what is expected of readers. I learned much from the experience of John Baird who invented the television. Despite the fact that some of his contemporaries lacked faith in him, he persisted and eventually achieved his goal. This is my favorite part of the book. Children can learn to be resilient and determined in their endeavors.

I really enjoyed this book, and I have no dislike about it. It is professionally edited. The text and images in the book were well organized. I rate Did You Know? 4 out of 4 stars. Children between the ages of 5 and 7 will benefit from reading this book.
