Throughout history, numerous books have been written and many stories told to teach children powerful moral lessons. Many of these stories were fictitious. They were just made up to serve as a teaching aid. Shadow's Adventure Home by Kathy Kovar has something in common with these books. It teaches moral lessons through the story of a cat called Shadow. However, this book is based on a true story. The book relates how Shadow longed to catch a bird. One day, Shadow had his chance to fulfill his wish. He found the opportunity to go out and catch a bird. But the unexpected happened. That day turned out to be the day he will never forget.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was quite suspenseful. I was unable to predict the conclusion of the story. Also, the descriptive prowess of the author is awesome. I felt as if I was present with Shadow on his adventure.

What I love most about this book are the beautiful illustrations. They are expressive and colorful. They vividly reflect Shadow's feelings and emotions. One of the illustrations shows Shadow hiding under the bed. I could see the nervousness in his posture and facial expression. This made the story come alive.

This book contains moral lessons for children. On 2 different occasions, Shadow took the initiative to get help from others. Children can learn to always call for help when faced with danger. Shadow also learned from his mistake and was determined never to repeat it.

I truly enjoyed this book and have nothing negative to say about it. It was exceptionally well edited. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Children between the ages of 5 and 8 years will enjoy reading this book. Others who love animal stories will also enjoy the book.
