Ava Flips is a children’s book about a young gymnastic girl named Ava who enjoys doing flips everywhere she goes. The character Ava is based on the author of this book, seven-year-old Ava Nebel. This is the first book that Ava Nebel has ever written and it’s a story that she has experienced as a gymnast and acrobat.

This is a quick read that can be finished in under a minute. I chose this book because I have a young niece who also loves doing flips and cartwheels, so I thought about her when I got this book. I would recommend parents to buy this book for their young children who are interested in gymnastics and can read at an elementary grade level.

I’m a visual person, so the drawings are what I loved most about this book. Colorful pictures and illustrations throughout the book showcased Ava flipping over furniture in her house, her dog Rover, and outside in her yard. The expressions on Ava’s face are perfectly drawn and show her excitement and passion for performing.

At one point in the book, Ava gets hurt from flipping and has to take a break. She doesn’t have a defeatist attitude and knows that she will flip again. This is a great message for kid readers to let them know that when learning a new hobby you might get hurt but it’s all about getting back up and trying again.

This was an exceptionally well-edited book that held my attention throughout. I came across no spelling or grammar errors in this book. Ava is a lively character with so much energy and joy that kids will find appealing and will be able to learn from. There is nothing I disliked about this book. I am going to give this book 4 out of 4 stars.
