My Special Day in Jasper,Texas USA is a children's book by Jermaine Kenyatta. Martha is an African-American child. While Martha doesn't understand the importance of attending an "all-white" school, she attends the said school all the same; her mom insists that she does. Despite not understanding the importance of it at the time, Martha goes on to understand it all too well.

We all have our flaws. Martha's mother isn't any different from the rest of us. When she loses her patience with Martha, she raises her voice at her. Many parents do this to belittle their children. It's clear that Martha's mother raises her voice simply to be heard. With that said, I'd like to think that there are better ones to be heard than to yell. No one is perfect. While Martha's mother isn't perfect, she has Martha's best interests at heart. If the world had more mothers like Martha's mother, the world would be a better place.

All of the children stared at Martha. Most of the teachers stared. Mrs. Gannon was the best teacher of them all. She was the teacher who took Martha under her wing. You'd never know that Mrs. Gannon was a different race from Martha; she didn't discriminate against Martha in any way.

Martha was an interesting child. While her mother warned her about talking too much, Martha continued to run her mouth all the same. All people ever did was stare at her. It wasn't every day that someone initiated a conversation with her. When someone actually did initiate a conversation with her, it was only nature for her to want to keep the conversation going.

All things considered, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I liked the people in Martha's life. I liked how fondly Martha spoke of the said people. There was nothing that I disliked about this book; I liked everything about it. I'd recommend this book to those who want to know just how far the black community has come. As unfair as life still is, it's not as unfair as it used to be. Martha really did pave the way for black children. While the writing isn't fancy, it isn't flawed; there are no writing errors whatsoever.
