In Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi, Inca and her friends are at it again. Inca’s human owner is a judge at a cooking competition and is about to debut her cheese in South Korea. While they are there, the detectives take on several missions. The most intricate and challenging one is a search and rescue operation. Inca and her detectives learn that their guide’s sister and her pet are stuck in North Korea. Inca and her detective friends take it upon themselves to cross the demilitarized zone into North Korea to attempt to rescue the guide’s sister and her pet. Will Inca and her animal friends pull off their search and rescue mission? How will the cheese debut go?

The Cat Detective series is always a pleasure to read, and Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is no exception. I think the best part of the book is the issues covered by the author. R.F. Kristi introduces complex issues like the demilitarized zone in a way that is not too detailed yet includes just enough to flesh out the plot and storyline.

Another positive aspect is the illustrations and designs. The drawings are captivating and informative. For instance, the image on the cover is a drawing of a cat in Korean-themed attire holding a magnifying glass. The image creates the impression of a mystery-solving cat and displays Korean fashion.

I rate Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula 4 out of 4 stars for several reasons. I think the editing is exceptional because I did not find any grammatical or typographical errors. The illustrations are captivating, and the storyline is interesting. I did not find any negative aspects about the book.

I recommend the book to children between seven and twelve years old. Readers looking for a single read will enjoy the book because the book is also a standalone read but also ties into the other instalments. I would advise parents and educators to help their young readers understand some of the issues and vocabulary.
