Review of Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula
Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is a detective adventure story for children. Inca, the Siberian cat detective, goes on an adventure to the Korean Peninsula along with her sister and brother in the company of their human mom Missy. Missy has been selected to be a judge at the cooking competition at Le Cordon Bleu. The competition is between South and North Korean chefs. At the competition, Missy is also to launch her new type of cheese. as their first challenge, the cat detectives are able to retrieve Missy's box of cheese when it suddenly disappears at the airport. Once settled in, the cats make new friends in South Korea. They are able to learn of the pain that comes with being separated from a loved one. The cats then take on a new and more significant challenge to reunite their newfound friends with their sister, who moved to North Korea and has failed to meet with them due to government restrictions concerning border crossing.
I love that the story is interesting, detailed and easy to read. I appreciate the author for the job well done in the character development for the animals. I love that the illustrations in the book are colorful and appealing to children and follow the flow of the story. I appreciate that the author used detailed descriptions of places, people and animal characters. The detailed descriptions give the readers a clear picture of what happens in the story. I loved how the animals worked together as a team to overcome challenges and solve mysteries while helping their human friends. I loved that Inca, the lead detective cat, is portrayed as a strong leader and takes into consideration the needs and interests of her teammates. Inca's character is good and encourages young girls to participate and take on leadership roles. Because the story was interesting, I also listened to the audible version and loved that the reader captured the different emotions and characters within the story through her voice.
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this book. It is a good story that helps children learn to be courageous and resilient and also be ready to lend a helping hand where necessary. It also teaches children to make new friends and work in teams while being responsible.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is exceptionally well-edited and is a fascinating story to read.
I recommend this book for parents with young children as it is an excellent and educative story for the kids. And the short length makes it easier for the young audience to read.
