Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventure
Donny and Mary Grace’s California Adventure by Catherine A. Pepe is a children’s book about a young girl and her adventures in California.
Mary Grace, a ten-year-old girl, and her brother, Donny, love visiting the Sedgwick Zoo in Wichita, Kansas. Donny, who has Down syndrome, enjoys seeing the penguins at the zoo with his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Miller. They never miss going out for picnics and swimming with their children. Mr. Miller, a priest, gets to live in a home provided by the church with his family. After a while, things start changing for the family after Mr. And Mrs. Miller goes on a missionary journey. The church asked them to move to Kenya, an African country, to help those in need. Mary Grace becomes upset at the thought of their parents leaving them for two years at their grandparents’ house in California. However, Mary Grace, who loves solving mysteries, gets involved in a case in California and tries to solve it with the help of the famous Grandma Gang. Will she unravel the mystery before it gets out of hand? Find out in this lesson-filled book about the adventures of Mary Grace and Donny in California.
Donny and Mary Grace’s California Adventure is a 151-page children’s book. The author divided the adventures of Mary Grace into seventeen chapters. The book contained graphics that helped me to depict what the next chapter holds.
There are so many things to like about this book. Although it was a children’s book, its content could attract older readers. The fact that Mary Grace and Donny quickly fit in with the people in California was amusing. I guess it was because they were children, but the two were awesome doing that without their parents. Mary Grace even made a close friend, Penelope, even when she was not happy that she was far away from her parents.
I could not find anything to dislike in this book. The author used a legible font that will not confuse young readers. Each chapter in the book was short, which prevented me from losing interest in reading the book. The book was exceptionally well-edited, as I encountered no errors while reading. Therefore, I rate this book four out of four stars for all the positive reasons mentioned.
I would recommend this book to lovers of children’s books. The book is suitable for young and old readers as there are lessons for everyone to learn.
