[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Randle Finds His Light" by Lisa Graham.]
Randle Finds His Light by Lisa Graham is a children's book about a little candle named Randle who lives in Paris. Randle is different from the other candles in the factory and is very self-conscious about his differences. This book is the story of how he makes friends, grows, and finds his own inner light.
I really enjoyed this story. I think it delivers a great message to children. It shows the value in each one of us, despite our differences. The illustrations complemented the story well. They were just as bright and colorful as the characters themselves. The book also seemed professionally edited. I only noticed one grammatical error that did not take away from the story at all.
It's hard to point out any negative aspects of this book. The story was rather short, and I suppose that works for younger readers. However, the writing style can definitely be enjoyed by slightly older children. So, it would have been nice if the story were a bit longer and the characters able to develop more fully. I would love to read more about Randle's adventures, but perhaps there will be more books about him.
I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It's a cute story with a unique character. The writing is of good quality, and the story flows at a fast pace. The illustrations are lovely and really bring to life the setting of Paris and the candle factory. In addition to that, it delivers an important message to children.
I would recommend this book to children of all ages. It has pictures that can be enjoyed by a younger crowd, but it also has concepts and wording that can be appreciated by older kids. I think it's a short, sweet story that parents will enjoy reading with their young ones. If you're looking for a children's book, this is great, and there's really no one I wouldn't recommend it to.
