Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventure
A blessing in disguise. We use it when we think an unfortunate thing has happened, only for it to turn into a good opportunity. Donny and Mary Grace’s California Adventure is a fictional children's novel by Catherine Anna Pepe that talks about the adventures of two children.
Donny was born as a unique being, and his family treated him as such. Thankfully, Donny had a loving and understanding family around him who always showered him with all the care he needed. It was shocking when Donny’s parents announced to their children that they would be going to Africa on a missionary assignment and that the two children would stay at their grandparents' house in California. Mary Grace is concerned that she will get to hear the story of the grandma gang right from the horse’s mouth. She is fascinated with the story and requests to join the group. Her grandparents perceived it as a tired girl's talk, but things proved otherwise. Read the story to find out the adventures of Donny and Mary Grace.
Donny and Mary Grace’s California Adventure is a children's book that features love, family, siblings' affection, adventure, and mystery. The author wrote the book in the third person’s point of view and narrated the story beautifully. The author chronologically arranged the book and explained and described it well. I guess it is because it is a children’s book. I could visualize each action and felt engaged in their activities.
The book showed the life of a unique child. Donny’s life revealed how it feels to be an extraordinary being and the challenges the people around him face. It was relatable, as I have been around unique people too. The beautiful thing is that, just as the name suggests, these people possess extraordinary abilities, despite their lack. I could relate to Mary Grace, who can not get angry at Donny or yell at him. The part where their parents broke the news about them going to Africa was emotional. Waking up only to hear that your parents would be moving to another continent for two years is no small thing. Their departure from the airport was even more emotional, but the author added joy to the sadness. Their days in California contained twists and turns that will keep you reading.
There was nothing to dislike about this book. The author wrote the book beautifully, and it was engaging. The characterization was also excellent. I loved the caring and tolerant nature of Mary Grace. She was able to put up with her brother and loved him greatly. The book also had an inviting and colorful cover page. I was eager to start reading. I encountered zero error, which shows that the book was exceptionally well-edited. Therefore, I rate this book four out of four stars for the positive points mentioned.
I recommend this book to children and children's book lovers. Anyone interested in books about family and adventures is also welcome to read the book.
