Review of Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi is a children's book that focuses on a mystery about an ancient sword stolen from a museum. It illustrates the adventure in Sri Lanka of the investigative team Inca and Company. Also, the book presents themes such as detective work, teamwork, and friendship.
Briefly, the story highlights a theft of a national treasure from the Colombo museum in Sri Lanka while Inca, her friends, and her owner Missy are on vacation at the beach. Missy's neighbor, Solo, is the detective who investigates the case at the museum, and Terrance, his dog, assists him in his work. Thus, Inca, Fromage, Cara, Charlotte, and Terrance start to search for the burglars while having fun in their bungalow.
I liked that R.F. Kristi included other animals besides Inca and her friends in the adventure in Sri Lanka and illustrated the exciting life on a safari. The turtle Rani and the baby elephant Meena were my favorite. I found the job of the mother elephant to transport the bride and groom to the wedding ceremony very creative. Also, I loved the effort and coordination of Inca and her team in their investigation. For example, they analyzed the photos from the museum and noticed the distinctive features of the two thieves.
There is no aspect I disliked about this book. I liked that the author illustrated both animals' fun life sprinkled with moments of relaxation and delicious meals and the dangers awaiting them when they venture into risky missions like Inca's meeting with a python or when Fromage went to visit the leopards in the jungle. I empathized with Inca's terror that she could be a meal for the snake in the forest and admired her courage and agility while she was dealing with difficult situations.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I enjoyed reading about the premises of the mystery case. I loved that R.F. Kristi presented the ruins and temples of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and liked the tea plantation's description and the rides on elephants. Inca's funny dream with her crowned by angels amused me, and I liked the illustrations with the sea turtles and the cute leopard cubs. Also, Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat was exceptionally well edited. I discovered no error while reading it.
I recommend this book to children who like mysteries, especially those who love animals and Sri Lanka's culture. It is perfect for those looking for an easy and captivating read. Also, Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is suitable for both adults and children thanks to the charismatic characters with whom any reader can empathize.
