Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventure
The book, Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventure, is a children's book with a very deep lesson. It emphasizes the need to always focus on the strengths of people, and not on their weaknesses. This book is authored by Catherine Anna Pepe. The story is set in the contemporary American cities of Wichita and California. Two kids, Donny and Mary Grace, are the central characters.
The story starts at a zoo in Wichita. John and Jen Miller went with their two children, Donny and Mary Grace, to the zoo. Donny has down syndrome. Beyond this challenge, the Miller family is a perfect model of a loving and happy family. But then, forces beyond the control of the family members temporarily their once simple life. This alteration exposes the kids to new challenges. One of the challenges in this new reality was that Mary Grace had to solve a mystery that could pose danger to her and Donny. Could she solve it? How would she solve it? Get this book and find out what happened and how these lovely kids managed themselves in the face of this alteration.
This book has some amazing themes. The themes found in this book are love, family bonds, parenting, bullying, and restitution. I greatly love the character of Mary Grace in this story. She is a smart little girl. She has a large heart too. She is the perfect model of what an elder sibling should be. Mary Grace always looked out for the good of her brother, even to the point of laying aside her interests. I also love the characters of John and Jen Miller. They are a perfect example of how good parents should act. They don't impose decisions on their children. Rather, they eased them in on what they wanted to do. This attribute is highly admirable.
I don't have any negative things to point out in this book. The book draws attention to some issues peculiar to young children. Issues like being sensitive about parenting, bullying, juvenile delinquency, and depression. It is delivered in a simple language. This makes it easy for very young children to comprehend. The book is an excellent children's book.
I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I give this perfect rating because the book has a deep lesson for children and even adults. The major lesson I learned from this book is that we should not look down or discriminate against people because of their physical conditions. Everyone is gifted and unique in different ways. The editing in this book is excellent. I didn't find any typos or grammatical errors in the book.
This book is suitable for very young children. I only found one incident of very minor profanity. This is negligible. This book is recommended for parents, guardians, and teachers of elementary schools. This story would enhance their understanding of children and their needs. This book should be read to children in elementary schools. This would help them imbibe and develop the virtues highlighted in this story.
