Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventure, written by Catherine A. Pepe, is a children's fiction book about two siblings, one ordinary and the other with down syndrome. The book starts with Mary Grace looking for his bother Donny who had down syndrome and got lost during their tour in the zoo. Mr. and Mrs. Miller had got a trip for missionary work in Africa, and their children were not happy since they were to leave their home in Wichita to California to live with their grandparents. After moving to California, Donny and Mary Grace are enrolled in Elementary School. Donny enjoys being in that school, but Mary Grace does not like the school since she is bullied and has few friends. Do you want to know how Donny and Mary Grace's adventure was and their experiences in California? Read this book and find out.

I liked several aspects of this book which made it very interesting to read. I liked the author's sense of humor portrayed in some parts of the book. For instance, when Mary Grace asks her mother to buy her jeans with holes, her mother compliments her by saying she thinks the jeans are appropriate for church because it's "holey." Secondly, the author expresses love for Donny, a down syndrome child, throughout the book. It encourages people to treat children with disabilities with love. Finally, the flow was great the way it started with Donny and Mary Grace in the zoo to their trip to California. The reader can easily understand and enjoy the book.

I did not have anything to dislike in the book. The language the author used was simple for children to understand. The structure was great, with short chapters that motivated children to read the book.

I rate Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventure by Catherine A. Pepe four out of four stars. The book was explicitly edited; hence, I did not find any errors. It had many positive aspects and no negative aspects; hence, the rating.

I recommend this book to children between grade 4 to grade 8. It would be helpful to them because the book teaches children how to stay in love with each other, especially for children with special needs. Also, the content in the book is appropriate for children due to its simplicity.
