Review of Stand-In Santa
Stand-In Santa by Stephen W. Roth is a children's novel that transports children to a world of imagination and wonder.
It was Christmas. Preston normally would have been given numerous gifts and presents, but nothing was forthcoming. His parents were even insinuating whether Santa was real or not. Preston's Christmas morning was already getting boring until he decided to leave home with his dog. They went to a carousel building that had been abandoned and closed for a while. When they got in, they met Nell, a reindeer who took them to a location. At the location, they met Holly, who took Preston on a sleigh and flew them to meet Santa. Preston could not believe his eyes. Santa would later assign him to do some tasks in his place. What were these tasks?
Stand-In Santa by Stephen W. Roth is a short story that revolves around Preston. Preston is portrayed as how a typical kid would behave during the Christmas season. The book was illustrated by Elia Murray.
I love the illustrations in the book. These illustrations were so colorful that I couldn't keep my eyes off the pages. I believe this is a brilliant way to make the targeted readers, who are children, more engaged in the story. Children typically love colorful books laced with illustrations.
I love how the author crafted this story in a way that every kid would relate to. Even as an adult, I really could relate to the story of the book because I was once a kid too. Every kid loves Christmas, and stories about Christmas are definitely what every child would want to read. This is quite brilliant from the author.
However, I do have a dislike for this book. The book's texts were relatively small, and little on the pages. I could not even zoom it to make it larger. I had to strain my eyes for me to be able to get the texts on the pages. For this reason, I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The book was exceptionally edited, though, because I found no errors. I recommend this book to children between the ages of 3 and 10 years.
