Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventure
Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures is the first volume of Grandma Gang Mystery, which is a children's series of Catherine Anna Pepe. This is a book inspired by the author's childhood with her brother Donny, who was fourteen years younger than her. Based on the author's real brother, Donny, the character was born with Down syndrome. He had a sister who was five years older than him. Mary Grace was her name; she was ten years old. Living with their parents in Wichita, they lived a happy life. Suddenly, their parents moved to Africa for missionary purposes, leaving them with their grandparents. Mary Grace found it difficult to start a new life without her parents in California. She began to experience bullying at her new school, and an unknown classmate began leaving threatening notes on her desk. Her brother Donny was insulted in the notes. This hurt her. But because of her brave nature, she made the decision to treat the incident as a mystery and track out the bully.
The book was able to convey to me Mary Grace and Donny’s maturity as well as their childish tendencies. For instance, when Donny got lost in the park, I discovered Mary Grace to be a mature youngster with the capacity for clear thinking. On the other side, we see them as young children in the following chapter appealing with their parents to take them to the park once more.
This book contains some interesting jokes that the family members played on each other. The author wrote the story in simple terms, making it appropriate for children.
I enjoyed everything in this book during my read. Mary Grace struck me as a charming and intriguing girl. The humor was amusing. Nothing in this book disturbed me as I read it through to the conclusion. There must have been a huge amount of editing work. Since I didn’t notice any typos or grammatical errors. I rate Donny and Mary Grace’s California Adventures 4 out of 4 for the reasons I mentioned above.
The recommendation I will make will be for both parents and children. As far as I am concerned, the theme of this book is how parents’ behavior affects their kids’ behavior and friendship. Check out this book with your children if you have any. This book might be enjoyable for children about Mary Grace’s age.
