Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is the eighth book in the Inca Cat Series by R.F. Kristi. The story follows Inca, the Siberian Kitty, and her family’s adventure in South Korea. Missy, their mom, has been invited by Cordon Bleu Cookery to South Korea to present her new cheese. She is also supposed to judge a cookery competition between chefs from South and North Korea. The animal detectives find themselves in a dangerous adventure that involves crossing borders from South to North Korea to unite a family.

Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula can be read as a standalone even though it is part of a series. I do not think readers will struggle to catch up with events from preceding books. The author did a great job explaining background information and events in the story. Also, I like the inclusion of Inca’s family tree and detective agency (Inca & Company) before the story starts. It helped me keep track of the characters.

Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is well written and has a great storyline. The story contains elements of humor, plot twists, and minor action scenes that will entertain young readers. I also appreciate that the story promotes the peaceful coexistence between North and South Korea. I like that R.F. Kristi simplified this subject so that children could better understand it without adding too much detail.

I like that the story promotes animal appreciation. I was able to familiarize myself with cat and dog breeds I had not known existed. I must also commend Jorge Valle for doing a superb job with the illustrations. I love how colorful and detailed they are. I also appreciate that they weren’t too big or numerous. That would have taken attention away from the captivating story.

In summary, I will be giving Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula an overall rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I settled on this score because I did not find anything that warranted a star reduction while reading. I loved reviewing this book, and I am sure many children will like reading the story. In terms of editing, I came across only one minor error. Therefore, it is safe to say that the book is exceptionally edited.

I recommend Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula to children. The best thing is this book is part of a series. Young ones can read the other books if they enjoy this one. I do not think older readers might enjoy this book because it is mainly suitable for young readers.
