Review of Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula
There are many children’s books that are premised upon animal detective adventure. However, there are few children’s books that have a well-balanced blend of educational value and animal detective adventure. Cat Detectives in The Korean Peninsula: Diary of A Snoopy Cat is such a book. Written by R. F Kristi, the book is child-friendly, and it would captivate the imagination of every child while bringing him or her closer to the world of animals.
The story of the book starts with Inca, the Siberian cat, who is undoubtedly a very astute and clever detective. Inca is together with her fellow animals; a dog called Terrance, two cats called Fromage and Cara, and a hamster called Charlotte. They head to South Korea with their human owner called Missy. Their mission is to present a new type of cheese and also act as judges at a cooking contest between South Korean and North Korean chefs. On this journey, the group is confronted by many mysteries and problems which are supposed to be solved. What are the mysteries and problems they confront? Do they ever manage to solve them? Read the entire book to get to know the complete story.
Kristi is an excellent writer. She uses a writing style that is not only suitable for children but would also easily capture their imagination. The illustrations used in the book are colourful and fit the genre of the story in the book. The way the author filled the book with twists and turns made the book more captivating. I also loved how the author captured the distinct personalities and emotions of the animals in the book. It was done with some great creativity. The book's educational value is immeasurable. The author familiarises the reader with interesting places in Korean Peninsula and their history. In addition, the book is exceptionally edited.
Because of the nature of the book, I felt like some secondary characters were not fully developed. This is the only problem I found with the book. However, even with that in mind, I still think the justified rating of the book is 4 out of 4 stars.
This book is obviously suitable for children between the ages of 8 and 12, but I would also recommend it to children beyond the age of 12. If you are just looking for a fun and fast-read book, this would be the one.
