Review of Buddy's First Day
Domestic animals can be hectic. However, some are fun to be around and for companionship. Dogs are good friends to humans, and petting them can be a great stress reliever. Anita Martinson introduces us to a young puppy named Buddy. He is adorable and curious about his surroundings.
Buddy enjoys sitting on the couch close to the window to observe the outside happenings. Typical to many dogs, he loves being petted. One day, Buddy’s family leaves him unattended in the house. He is worried his family might leave for good and never return.
Once they’re gone, the adorable puppy sniffs a yummy smell coming from somewhere in the house, but he is unsure where. The aroma is from the house’s blue trash can. As Buddy attempts to devour the inside contents of the can, it falls. Its contents spill and make a mess. Oops! How will the family react?
I liked how specific the author was with the puppy. She notifies us that Buddy is a Lhasa Apso puppy and goes ahead to explain his color. This way, a reader who doesn’t know much about dog breeds learns a thing or two.
I felt like the illustrations should have been larger images. I had to zoom in to get a clear view of them. That is what I didn’t enjoy. Nevertheless, that was nothing serious to affect the book’s rating. Thus, I award Buddy’s First Day 4 out of 4 stars. Moreover, I detected just a single typo; therefore, it is well edited.
I appreciated how Buddy’s family treated him. They’d rub his belly and let him enjoy watching the views through the window. From the book, one can tell the author is a dog enthusiast; hence, her prowess in crafting such a thrilling tale is appreciated. I recommend Buddy’s First Day to kids who adore dogs.
