Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe is an interesting book to read for several reasons. Despite the progress the world has made in addressing the marginalization and stigmatization of minorities, we still have a long way to go. Such a book is always encouraging as it inculcates empathetic values at a young age.

Donny was born with Down syndrome and has to navigate through life despite all the challenges that come with it. His family is very supportive, more so his sister. Donny lives in Wichita with his parents, but something happens that forces the parents to go to Africa for two years. This is very hard for the family.

Mary Grace feels as if the parents are abandoning them and is very mad. The decision is made to send the children to California, where their grandparents live. Despite all the love from their grandparents, there are numerous challenges in adapting to the new environment, more so in the new school where Donny is discriminated against. To find out how the story unfolds in California, get yourself a copy of this amazing book.

This book is exceptionally well edited, and the editors deserve applause for their contribution to this work. I loved how the characters are well developed. The plot is also easy to understand, which will make it easy for the readers. It was also interesting to find out that the book was inspired by real-life events.

There is nothing to dislike about this book. It is entertaining and educative. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because of its simplicity and effectiveness in passing on the intended message. We must provide love and care for those who are facing various challenges. I recommend the book to children and any other reader who loves children's books.
