My Special Day in Jasper, TX USA: In Memory of Martha is a thought-provoking literary piece written by Jermaine Kenyatta. It details the life of a young black girl, Martha, in the hostile atmosphere of the American 1950s and 1960s. Martha's mother defies American society's "social correctness" by enrolling her in an all-white elementary school in Jasper, Texas. There, Martha feels "surrounded," "smothered," and "alone" (page 7). But she soon realises she is on a path to change the fate of thousands of black children.

This literary piece is listed as a children's book. I respect this categorisation. However, I think this book transcends that. The message in this book is so revolutionary, so striking, and so inspirational that it can also appeal to adults. Hence, I recommend this book to both children aged nine to twelve and older adults. Trust me, this is an exceptional literary piece. Readers' hearts will be melted by the very thing that happened on Martha's "special day in Jasper."

I was impressed by the way the author crafted the dialogue between the characters. The conversations were logical, active, realistic, and captivating. There was no clutter. Every word in this book was significant and served some purpose. This got the plot moving smoothly. Kenyatta's descriptive prowess is amazing. I didn't even know when I turned the last page because everything was "beautiful."

The purpose of writing this book is to celebrate an exceptional figure, Martha Maxine "Mackie" Adams, in the history of the black race in Jasper and beyond. There are other exceptional personalities like Momma and Mrs Gannon. I commend the author for the nice job she did in this book. Readers will come across a raw display of strength of character, courage, conviction, love of humanity (no matter the skin colour or race), and compassion. But can love, peace, and fairness prevail over hate, chaos, and discrimination?

I didn't come across any grammatical errors in this book. It was thoroughly edited. There is nothing to complain about this book. Hence, I am delighted to rate My Special Day in Jasper, TX USA: In Memory of Martha 4 out of 4 stars. This rating is based on the above positive points. I don't have any reason to deduct any stars from the rating.

The book sounds interesting from the author's review, although the cover page does not look intriguing. I like that the author teach morals and good values. Amazing review.

The book details Martha's experiences in a rough period when racism was even more prevalent. I found her story inspirational while reading. Great review.

It is interesting to read your opinion about this book. Nice review. Martha is really a lady worth emulating. This book should be sent to lots of children that find school challenging. Racism is also something that should be eradicated.

After going through this review, I can understand the reason you mentioned that this book can also be enjoyed by adults. I am amazed to read about Martha's courage and resilience, even in a hostile environment. I am really encouraged. I celebrate such other characters like Mrs. Gannon and Martha's mother.

Your review is well-detailed and informative without any spoilers. But I will skip this book. Because, I'm not a lover of memoirs. Congrats on your published review

The America everyone regards as a land of freedom and a land of dreams was once a very hostile, racist land for some people.

Martha's mother is bold and daring and I love that. It's not everyday we have to follow the constructions of society. I enjoyed reading your review and I'd love to read the book too. Good review.

I can’t imagine what Martha must have gone through as the only racially diverse child in that school. I do think that racism can be overcome, but it’s going to take more work than many of us want to commit to.

Wow! At some point in life, I really think I have been in Martha's shoes. I must commend her mother for bravery. I must also commend Martha for resilience in the school. This is a well written book. It touches a very soft spot in the society.
I look forward to reading this book.
I enjoyed your review.

I have read this book for myself! I have to say that even as an adult, I enjoyed it. However, I found that it did not fit the intended audience as well as I would have liked. But Mackie’s story is inspiring and we should never get enough of inspiring content!
