Homer is a loveable dog who was adopted by his owner, Steve, and his wife, Kelly. Homer: A Constant Companion explores Homer's relationship with Steve, Kelly, and other animals he encounters. This is the first book in the Homer series that tells Homer's backstory.

Pamela Colerick is the author of this book that's based on the real-life relationship with her deceased son-in-law, Steve, and his dog, Homer, whom she took in. A famous quote that sums up Steve's and Homer's relationship in this book is, "Dog is a man's best friend." The relationship between Steve and Homer is magnetic and a beautiful sight to see. It shows in the pictures how they enjoy spending time with one another. I know children will enjoy these lively and brightly colored pictures.

Homer is a mix between a pit bull and an American bulldog. I love that this book showcases how a breed like Homer interacts with a Welsh terrier, a Chihuahua, and other canines. Out of all the dogs Homer met, I loved his and Kiarra's relationship.

Homer: A Constant Companion is a short read, so I recommend parents get this book for their young children who want to get a dog. Homer showcases that having a dog is a full-time job. This book may even encourage a family to adopt a dog, like Homer.

I'm going to give this book 3 out of 4 stars. I demoted this book a star because this is a children's book and I thought the part where Homer insinuated that he could eat one of the other puppies was a bit graphic for me. It was not in a vicious way, but it made Homer look intimidating. And, when Homer was talking about his bathroom usage, I felt that was a bit too much. Other than that, I had fun learning about Homer in this exceptionally well-edited story that is free of errors.

This sounds like a very cute story. Unfortunately, I don't think my son would be interested in it though. You wrote a great review.
