Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe is an extraordinary book for children. Donny, a five-year-old boy, has a sister named Mary Grace. They loved going to the Sedgwick County Zoo with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller. They enjoyed spending time together and also seeing the animals.

One evening, Mr. and Mrs. Miller are engrossed in a deep conversation in the kitchen. Mary Grace walked in and was worried because she had never seen her mother so sad. After a while, they instructed Mary Grace to call her brother Donny. They were going to have a family meeting. They broke the news to them that they would be going to Africa to do missionary work. Mr. Miller explained that the bishop selected them as missionaries for the Episcopal Church. They had a branch in Africa, and he wanted them to help. The children were devastated, and Mary Grace took the news the hardest. They were troubled that they would have to go to California without their parents. Would Mr. and Mrs. Miller go to Africa? Or would they forfeit and stay with their children? Refer to this extraordinary book to find out what happens next.

I enjoyed perusing this book. There were so many lessons for children and also for parents to learn. This book encourages individuals to show kindness to people, even to strangers. I also like the bond Mary Grace shared with her brother, Donny. Even though Donny had Down Syndrome, Mary Grace was very protective of him. The book also teaches children the adverse effects of bullying. Bullying can come in various forms, and parents or teachers should inform children about it.

Furthermore, there was nothing I disliked about the book. It is very informative, and children would learn a lot from it. The book also highlights the importance of allowing children to be expressive. It also encourages parents to spend quality time with their children. I recommend this book to children.

In conclusion, the book's editing is commendable. It was an excellent read, except for the grammatical error I encountered while reading the book. The author was exceptionally detailed in her writing. Therefore, I rate Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe a befitting 4 out of 4 stars.
