Movies Are Magic: The Director's Cut by Jennifer Churchill is a children's book to help develop a child's interest in classic movies. Your child will learn the history of classic movies, beginning with cave paintings, vaudeville shows, and silent movies. The Little Rascals, The Kiss, King Kong, and The Little Princess are just a few of the movies mentioned in this book. Your child will learn about Shirley Temple, Steamboat Willie, and other stars who had roles in the history of classic movies. Do your children know the difference between Fred Astaire's and Ginger Rogers's dancing? What do classic movies teach children?

Throughout the book, there are fun illustrations that relate to the narrative on each page. Jennifer Churchill used bold print to emphasize important points and to grab the reader's interest. I appreciate that she points out that some classic movies contain racism, sexism, and other behaviors parents should discuss with their children. Homeschool Projects, a Teacher's Guide, and an email address to get PDF copies of the projects are at the end of the book. Some projects are five movie night ideas with fun recipes related to the movie, instructions for a puppet show, and a vaudeville skit. Jennifer Churchill has also provided other activities, so grab a copy of this book.

I have no complaints about this informative children's book. The narrative and the illustrations have been exceptionally well-edited and are flawless.

I have no reason to give this book a lower rating than 4 out of 4 stars. Jennifer Churchill and Howell Edwards, the illustrator, have done an excellent job with this book. There are no errors, and the book is a joy to read.

The book is more appropriate for children over eight with more reading experience. Younger children will have difficulty reading some words and understanding what they mean. However, they will probably enjoy having it read to them. This book is for you if you want your children to learn about classic movies.
