Holes is a children's book written by Louis Sachar. It is a book about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who believes that he, his father, his father's father, and so on, were under a curse. He was accused of stealing a pair of shoes, so he was sent to a wasteland where he was supposed to dig all day, along with a group of wrongdoers. Holes is a very nice story which kids from 9 to 14 years old would like to read. It is irresistible and suspenseful. In my opinion, it is one of the best children's book in the world. I think you should read it, and you won't regret it!

I loved this book! I had to read it for Newberry bowl, and it was one of my favorites. The movie was quite good, too.

I never read this, sadly I saw the movie before I knew it was a book so I think that may ruin the book for me. I did like the movie though. Have you seen it? Did it stick close to the book?

The movie pretty much stuck to the book with a few minor differences.

I listened to the audio version of the book after seeing the movie. Louis Sachar did the screenplay. It did stick pretty close to the book. One big exception was the movie Stanley not being fat. That did make a big difference. The DVD had a deleted scene that was featured in the book. Another difference was one character being named Theodore instead of Alan. Mr. Sir's real name wasn't given in the book. Netflix has the movie.

I love this book! I remember when it came out and we all read it together as a class. I have recommended this book to numerous kids that i know or in my family and everyone has loved it. The movie was very similar to the book which just brought the whole thing to life, It was great.

Does anyone else think the story would have been better if Dr. Pendansky (sic) wasn't part of the conspiracy? He was a rather annoying character. His insistence on calling the boys by their given names showed a lack of respect. Some people don't like nicknames they got stuck with. But it's much worse to get a real name you don't like. They're harder to get rid of, at least legally. Do you remember when the lawyer came looking for Stanley? A scene in the book helped set that up. It didn't make the movie. But if they filmed everything in the book, there'd been a much longer movie.

I loved the movie and the book is on my TBR list. Thanks for reminding me what a great story it is. I’ll have to move it closer to the top of the list now!

I was afraid no one made a review or discussion thread about this wonderful book. Despite being a children's book, I think all ages can read and appreciate this book. In fact, I think the older you are, the more appreciative you will be of how the plot comes together and concludes nicely. I first read an Arabic translation of the book in high school. Later on, I looked for a digital copy of the original English. It was just as good and absorbing in both languages. I will buy a hardcopy of the original English when I find one. This book is my favorite book in the whole world.
