[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "All about our blood" by Viola Baxter.]
Slindo Pie is an eight-year-old girl who loves to read. She reads one of her mother's books and proceeds to tell her sister, Baby Pie, what she learned from the book. She starts by telling Baby Pie that our blood is made up of many cells. She talks about white blood cells, blood groups, red blood cells, blood plasmas, and platelets. Grab a copy of this book to learn from Slindo's simplified explanation of blood groups.
The book had some aspects that were worthy of note. I loved how it was a book based solely on learning. It is important to learn how to keep our bodies safe and functional from a young age. Slindo's method of conveying knowledge was exquisite. She explained the blood cells using a simple description of pizza and its toppings. Have you ever thought about how blood cells could be compared to pizza toppings? Well, neither have I. The author's use of examples and illustrations was very thoughtful.
The book All about our Blood by Viola Baxter was a wonderful read. Not only does the book talk about blood cells, it tells us how we can help these blood cells to keep our bodies strong and healthy. By reading this book, children and even adults will understand, in a way that they cannot forget, the functions and importance of our blood cells. The author also educates on us blood groups. Viola did not forget to include descriptive images in this book. I believe that Slindo's love for reading will inspire the readers to feel the same way too.
I found some errors while I read this book. While there were only a few, I believe proper care should be taken while writing children's books so children can have a better command of words. Every other thing in the book sat well with me.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. While I did not appreciate the presence of errors, the book was still professionally edited. I enjoyed how insightful the book was. Therefore, I have no reason to give the book a lower rating. I recommend this book to children between the ages of five and ten. They would learn a lot from the author's way of teaching. I also recommend it to adults who seek an easy understanding of blood groups, as I certainly enjoyed the book and grabbed a lot of knowledge.
