Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures is a moderately paced children’s book by Catherine A. Pepe. Catherine is the first female partner ever in an international law firm's labor and employment department. She occasionally features her brother, Donny, in the stories she tells.

This book revolves around Mary Grace and her little brother Donny. The story begins at the zoo, with the entire family searching for Donny. After what seemed like hours of searching, Mary Grace cracks the case and figures out where her brother might be. But that’s just the beginning. As the story progresses, we learn that Mr. Miller, Mary Grace and Donny’s father, serves as the priest and rector of St. James Episcopal Church. Mrs. Miller, their mom, designs water systems for the city. They live happily, but Mr. and Mrs. Miller have sad news for the children. They will have to be apart for a long time, and it breaks Mary Grace’s heart.

Read this book to find out why Mr. and Mrs. Miller had to go away and where they are heading to. I believe you’d enjoy the story as much as I did. The book didn’t feel rushed, and the author wrote straightforwardly. I didn’t come across anything that wasn’t essential to the development of the plot, and the author didn’t seem to digress at any point. Donny is my favorite character. He is a free, jolly, and enthusiastic person that will certainly rub off on you. I can see why he is often featured in Catherine’s books. These are just a few reasons why I like this book.

This book is just a little under 200 pages, so it’s not long, but I believe it might be too long for children who are younger than 6 years old. I don’t dislike anything about this book, but since it is a children’s book, I wish that some thought had gone into making the illustrations colorful and vibrant for the children to enjoy. However, this didn’t affect my reading experience.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars, and I’ve stated several reasons why it deserves this rating. I didn’t rate it lower because I didn’t hate anything about it. Also, I didn’t come across any errors, and I believe that a professional proofread and edited this book exceptionally well. Because of the length of this book, I recommend it for children who are 7 years and older. Adults who are learning to speak English can equally use this book to practice.

The book’s cover looks dull and a bit unappealing. If this is anything to go by, then the author should have put more consideration into the layout and overall look of the house. But on the bright side, the author features explanations regarding reputation, and other such things.

Children have problems, too, don’t they? As adults, we tend to dismiss them, but they are every bit ass real as our own.
