Suzie Sparkle and the Magic Book is written by Steve Moran. Suzie Sparkle was traveling with her dad to buy a first edition copy of the the Grimms' Fairy Tales. her father traded three mice for the book. Suzie found this trade rather odd, but she also felt drawn to the book. She soon finds out that she can literally go into the fairy tales just by reading the stories. At first she finds this fun, but she soon learns that her decisions have consequences. By stepping into the fairy tales, she ends up altering the path's of the original stories. Can Suzie go back and make the stories end the way that they were supposed to, or will the stories be changed forever?

This book was a lot of fun to read. On every page, there was a new adventure. Suzie manages to get herself caught in a lot of interesting situations. What I liked most about this book is that it will teach kids that their choices can have consequences. So it is important to make sure that the decisions we make are the right ones. When we make bad choices, we can end up hurting ourselves and the people around us. That's why it's better to learn to make good decisions at an early age. That is what I think this book will provide for children.

One thing that I didn't care for about this book is that it was a little violent in some parts. Although this kind of interacts with what I said about the choices we make, I still don't think it's a good idea for children to be reading about violence. This is really the only bad thing I found in the book though. Otherwise, I truly enjoyed it.

This book is best suited for children around eight through twelve in age. I wouldn't recommend this book for children under the age of eight years old because of the violence. Children around the ages that I mentioned will usually know that it is always good to make the right choices. For those children, I think this would be a fun and adventurous book for them to read. They will get to read about several different fairy tales, and they will get a new twist to them as well.

I give Suzie Sparkle and the Magic Book 3 out of 4 stars. The reason I didn't give this book 4 stars is because, like I mentioned above, it has some violence. However, I didn't think it deserved anything lower than 3 stars because it was a great book to read. I haven't read anything like this in a long time, and I found it to be very unique.

i haven't read this book but I have read a lot of the original grims fairy tales. And they could be quite violent that only changed after they were seen as for kids and then we're adapted to what was currently considered acceptable for children. Which in my opinion at least is highly debatable.

Grimm's fairy tales are pretty violent. It's hard to believe children listened to stories like that back then! After reading Suzie Sparkle and the Dragon Princess, I'm really curious to read this one. Thanks for the review!

Thank you guys for taking the time to look over my review. I am glad that I have made you interested in the book, and the sequels. I agree with Rachaelamb1 that it is hard to believe children listened to such violent stories back then. I guess that could be why history has so much violence in it. If kids are taught that violence is ok at a young age, then it could encourage them to act that way when they get older. I am glad that there are much nicer stories for children to read now, even though there are some violent ones out there as well. At least there is more options.

I've heard before that such fairy tales were originally meant to serve as warnings to children to keep them from putting themselves in dangerous situations, so the tales would be violent and scary without happy endings. Not sure if that's accurate or not, but, yikes.

Anyway, Suzie Sparkle sounds like it would've been right up my alley, when I was a kid. :)

Thank you NadineTimes10 for responding to my review. I guess I can understand how the Grimms' Fairy tales would scare children. I am still glad that there are better books for children read now. I think that good stories can encourage kids to do good things, and if they are not teaching a specific message, then they can at least be entertaining for children.

Very true. And entertaining books can be helpful in developing vocabulary and encouraging an overall love for reading. If a child finds reading scary or giving them nightmares it may discourage them to read.

Yes, that completely makes sense. I used to have a lot of nightmares as a kid and the last thing I wanted to read was a scary book.
