Suzie Sparkles and the Dragon Princess by Steve Moran is a children's book about a young girl, Suzie, who finds herself launched into an incredible fantasy realm. One minute she is on a boring airplane ride with her mom, the next she is falling out of the plane and landing on the dreadful Dragon Island with a mysterious girl. Suzie is surprised to find that dragons are real and is determined not to become their next meal. How on earth will they escape the island? Will Suzie ever see her family again? To find that out, you will have to read the book.

I found this to be a charming story. It is fast-paced with a good balance of details. In the beginning of the book, you are able to get a good picture of Suzie's life with her family while not making the story drag. The book is not that long but there is a lot more to it than you might expect at first. It is hard to give a good summary of this book without giving away too much information.

I thoroughly enjoy the author's writing style. It reminds me of some classic stories I've read by E. Nesbit. The style is light-hearted with just a hint of humor. It is not the sort of humor you will find yourself laughing out loud to, but more subtle. Suzie is a likable character with an extremely positive attitude even in dire situations. This can be a bit unrealistic, but it does make the story more enjoyable that way. Personally, I do not care for characters who have a nervous breakdown when they are thrown into a fantasy world so I love Suzie's remarkable reaction to everything. I think children will fall in love with her character.

The book is recommended for children ages 8-12 but I think children a little bit younger (about 7-10 years old) would like it more. It does not have a complicated plot so it may not be as interesting for older children. Although they may think it's a cute story, I do not think they will necessarily love it. Very young children may find the idea of being eaten by dragons frightening, but there is nothing overtly descriptive about people dying.

My rating for this book is 4 out of 4 stars. I think the author did a terrific job writing a charming story children will love. Aside from a few minor grammar mistakes, I have no other issues with the book. It is a well-written story that I look forward to reading with my daughter someday. I am happy to see that there are 2 other Suzie Sparkles books. It looks like there could be any number of books added to this type of series so perhaps there will be more. If you have children, give Suzie Sparkles a try. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I enjoyed reading this review. Just the title, Suzie Sparkle and the Dragon Princess, makes it sound like a book that would appeal to young girls, especially ages 7 to 10 like the review says. I like the imagination behind the story and I think children will too. I also like that it is written with a positive tone and that Suzie seems like a girl who is competent and capable so she would be a good role model for girls.

Very nice review. This sounds really cute. This sounds like one kids would really enjoy. I find that characters such as Suzy are sometimes very delightful, even if she is a little unrealistic. Kids seem to enjoy these types of books.
