Bertie the Bouncing Beach Ball by Mandy Woolf is an illustrated children's book about Bertie, an abandoned beach ball. The tone of the book is sweet and fun. It is written in first person, from Bertie’s perspective.

Bertie hangs on the shelf along with the spade, green bucket, and sandcastle. When the children come to the toy shelf to pick a toy to play with, they pick everyone but him. Bertie was hoping to get played with, but because he is patchy and old, he is always left behind. While Bertie is feeling depressed and sad, the door opens and Rosie walks in. She picks Bertie to play with. Will Bertie be able to bounce back again?

I liked the lessons taught in the book. For one, the first lesson to be learned was about not judging someone by their appearance. The kids judged Bertie for being old and worn. Another lesson was not to allow other people’s opinions of us to affect how we view ourselves. Bertie was affected by their opinions and was really upset and depressed. These are the kinds of lessons that children should learn.

I also liked the author's writing style, which was happy, fun, and engaging. It's definitely something a child can relate to and understand. Another thing I liked was the discussions at the end of the book for parents, teachers, and children. Also, I liked the illustrations in the book and the way they were presented; they fit the book perfectly.

I rate this book five out of five stars as I found nothing wrong with it. The book was exceptionally edited, and I found no grammatical errors. This book was well written and proofread. The story of Bertie, the beachball, is relatable and would be perfect for kids from ages four to seven. I recommend this book to parents and teachers of children within the above-mentioned age group.

Children's books should indeed be this entertaining, joyful and teaching values to their young readers. Great review.

The author's way of writing was highly engaging. Children can easy relate with it and understand. I like how there were discussions at the end of the book for parents, teachers, and children. The illustrations in the book equally added to the beauty of the book. I love how beautiful everything looked.
