On holiday at her grandma's house in California, Mary Grace tells her family members a story about a school bully who poses a problem for her. She, her grandma, and her younger brother, Donny, who has Down syndrome, set out to stop her from being bullied. Together, they join hands to solve a number of mysteries.

When reading Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe, you will come to admire the courage of the adventurous trio of Donny, Mary Grace, and Grandma. I love how they embark on a mission to get rid of vice, and their actions will convey a positive message to any reader who ventures into reading this book. The book also teaches positive attributes such as understanding, truthfulness, and compassion, which are exhibited in the relationship between the Granny gang.

One very important aspect of the book is how it brings to the forefront the issue of disabilities, which is a very sensitive topic. Donny is autistic and has Down syndrome, but he is a bright child. His enthusiasm and optimism are felt throughout the course of the adventures in the book. This will help change a lot of stereotypes and correct the stigma surrounding people with disabilities. They will then be looked at with eyes of respect and as people who are capable of doing what any healthy human being can do. This is a very enlightening and educational aspect of the book.

Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures is a good book with a lot to teach, and personally, I didn't find anything negative about it. I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars. The book was exceptionally edited, too, because I found no errors.

I recommend that this book be read by not only children but also youths, as it will change their mentality on sensitive issues.
