Doctoroo (also known as Dr. Marsha Roo) and her team are from Australia, but they travel all over the world to get medical mystery cases, and in this book, they got a case in Hawaii. Her team consists of Kirby Koala, Louie Llama, and Terence Toad. Helping others is Doctoroo’s most important job, and they gladly hop on a plane, where they are warmly greeted in Hawaii with leis over their heads. There are the pig dancers who don’t have any fever, but they keep getting redder and redder and itchier and itchier. Why is this? When Louie the Llama starts sneezing due to the flowers around his neck, it sparks an idea about Doctoroo. They decide to go scouting in the woods to find the possible culprit.

This book has been excellently written with a relatable and engaging theme. The illustrations by Irina Dringova are very catchy and bright. I know I enjoyed it thoroughly and loved the facial expressions, which means youngsters like my son will enjoy it even more. There were comic-like graphics in the writing, which made the reading even more exciting. I loved absolutely everything about this fast-paced book.

We learn about dangerous gases that can be emitted from a volcano, which dormant volcanoes don’t give off. We learn that spider bites can also cause red and itchy skin reactions. We learn that some trees and plants can cause allergic reactions and even blisters at times. We learn about sunburn and sunblock precautions. I absolutely loved the poem created by applying sunblock and how catchy it was. It is easy to remember for youngsters. What caused the pigs to get all red and itchy? Can they now work on a cure and future precautions after answering the what and why questions?

I rate Doctoroo and the Case of the Red Hot Hawaiians by Dr. Rachel B. Wellner 5 out of 5 stars. There was absolutely nothing I disliked about this book, and I found no errors. The book is deserving of a perfect rating. There is so much for children to learn from this one book, and this is book eight of her Doctoroo medical mystery books. I can only imagine the knowledge and help that are in all of the books. They are a must-have for younger children.

I would recommend this book specifically to toddlers and young teens. I believe some adults will enjoy and learn from this book. There are a lot of life lessons in this short story to keep you on your toes going forward. Will Doctoroo and her team be able to help the hula dancers get better and still take part in their Big Dance Festival? There is only one way to find out: Start reading!

I liked the way Hawaiian culture was portrayed in the narrative.
